Kuwait revokes citizenship of 16 people and their dependents

The Council of Ministers has issued a decision to withdraw the Kuwaiti citizenship from 16 persons, along with others who had obtained it through dependency. The decision has been published in the latest issue of the official gazette Kuwait Alyawm, Sunday.

This measure was taken in accordance with Article (21 bis A) of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, which governs Kuwaiti nationality and its amendments. The article stipulates that citizenship must be revoked if it is proven to have been granted unlawfully, particularly through fraud, false statements, or incorrect documentation, reports Al-Rai daily.

The legal provision authorizes the Council of Ministers, based on a proposal from the Minister of Interior, to issue withdrawal decisions. It also mandates that any individual who acquired nationality through dependency — such as spouses and children — must also lose their citizenship if the primary holder’s status is revoked.
