Kuwait reviews Northern Economic Zone strategy, pushes to accelerate housing projects

His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah chaired a meeting at Bayan Palace with the team overseeing the Northern Economic Zone project, where participants reviewed the preliminary outlines of the project’s strategy.

The meeting focused on strengthening the private sector’s role in economic development by implementing a flexible legislative framework that supports diverse activities in the industrial, commercial, and tourism sectors. Officials emphasized the need for an attractive incentive structure to stimulate private investment, according to Al-Jarida daily.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the Prime Minister’s Diwan, Abdulaziz Al-Dakhil, Minister of State for Municipal and Housing Affairs Abdullatif Al-Mishari, and a number of experts.

The discussions also covered the legal framework for the project, which aims to establish a sustainable and competitive economic model aligned with Kuwait’s investment objectives and fully governed by national sovereignty.

In the meantime, progress continued on housing projects. Following up on an earlier Coordination Committee meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Ministers Abdullatif Al-Mishari, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan (Public Works), and Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem (Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy) convened to evaluate implementation and address service-related obstacles.

A statement from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare confirmed that the committee is working to accelerate the removal of challenges facing housing projects and is ensuring compliance with timelines.

The ministers reiterated their commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and housing services in line with the directives of the political leadership.

The meeting also acknowledged the cooperation of relevant authorities in addressing specific challenges within their jurisdictions, which will aid in formulating a strategy to overcome barriers and ensure progress.
