Kuwait records 44% drop in drug cases after implementation of new law

Justice Minister says stricter legislation and security efforts contributed to decline in cases

Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Yousef Al-Sumait confirmed that drug trafficking and psychotropic substance cases decreased by 44 percent in the first four months after the implementation of the new drug law, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Al Rai.

Al-Sumait explained that the Ministry of Justice’s statistics for cases registered before the Public Prosecution showed a decrease of 111 cases, as the number dropped from 255 cases to 144 cases.

He added that these indicators reflect the clear practical impact of legislative tightening in confronting this type of crime, especially when it is accompanied by security vigilance and field efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior in combating it and apprehending its perpetrators.

Al-Sumait concluded by praising the integration between state institutions, stressing that these positive results are the fruit of joint work between the judicial and security authorities, and that efforts will continue to strengthen cooperation to achieve more accomplishments in this file.
