Kuwait receives 487 family joining applications under eased residency policy

Kuwait's General Administration of Residency Affairs received 487 family joining applications from non-university expatriates on the first day of the amended policy.

  • The policy allows expatriates with work permits and a salary of at least 800 dinars to bring wives and children under 14 years old to Kuwait.

  • Farwaniya Governorate led in receiving 140 applications, followed by the Capital Governorate with 131 applications.

Kuwait’s residency regulations are offering more opportunities for expatriates to reunite with their families.

This news comes after a new decision by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef.

A security source confirmed to Al-Anba newspaper that the General Administration of Residency Affairs received a remarkable 487 applications on the very first day (Tuesday) following the implementation of the amended policy.

This decision allows non-university graduates with a valid work permit and a minimum salary of 800 Kuwaiti dinars to sponsor their families for residency in Kuwait.

The applications included wives and children under the age of 14. While some applications were successfully processed and granted family joining visas, others faced rejection due to incomplete documentation.

A common issue was the lack of proper attestation from the Kuwaiti embassy in the applicants’ home countries.

The security source reassured all expatriates that the opportunity to sponsor family members remains open. This applies to both university and non-university graduates, as stipulated in the recently amended Ministerial Resolution No. 56/2024.

The Farwaniya Governorate Residency Affairs Department emerged as the leader in receiving applications, processing a total of 140 submissions on the first day. The Capital Governorate followed closely behind with 131 applications.

Other departments also saw significant activity, with Hawalli receiving around 100 applications, Ahmadi processing 43, and the remaining applications spread across Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Jahra Governorates.
