Kuwait has reiterated its unwavering support for regional academic cooperation during the 97th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), held in Kuwait.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Nader Al-Jalal emphasized the country’s commitment to advancing Gulf educational integration and fostering a sustainable knowledge-based society, according to Al-Rai daily.
In his opening address, Al-Jalal welcomed AGU’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Omar Al-Rawas, members of the Board, and University President Dr. Saad bin Saud Al-Fahid. He expressed Kuwait’s pride in hosting the meeting and praised the Board’s instrumental role in shaping the University’s general policies and approving impactful academic plans and programs.
Al-Jalal described AGU as a “joint academic edifice” that embodies the spirit of unity and integration among GCC countries. “Kuwait is proud of this model, which reflects a shared vision and destiny,” he said. He also lauded the efforts of AGU’s leadership and faculty for continuously improving academic standards and aligning educational outcomes with international benchmarks.
He affirmed that Kuwait will continue to support regional research and academic collaboration and promote strategic partnerships among higher education institutions in the Gulf. These efforts, he said, are key to empowering future generations and achieving collective development goals across the region.
Dr. Omar Al-Rawas, Chairman of the AGU Board of Trustees, thanked Kuwait for its steadfast support, especially the continued backing from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He acknowledged the contributions of outgoing board members Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Asimi and Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, and welcomed new representatives from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Sudairy and Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Muqbil.
Lamia Al-Mulhim, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Ministry of Higher Education and a member of the Board, expressed her honor in co-hosting the meeting. She emphasized that such gatherings are crucial for strengthening regional cooperation, sharing expertise, and reaffirming commitment to empowering future Gulf leaders with the knowledge and skills needed for tomorrow.
