Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah affirmed Kuwait’s strong commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, ensuring their full participation in society, and upholding international agreements on social justice and sustainable development.

Ahead of the 18th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (June 9–12 at the UN), Al-Huwailah highlighted the importance of this global platform in addressing progress, challenges, and innovation in disability rights, reports Al-Rai daily.

She emphasized key themes of the conference, including innovative financing, the role of technology and AI, and the rights of indigenous persons with disabilities.

Al-Huwailah also participated in the Arab coordination meeting chaired by Bahrain, which focused on unified Arab efforts and monitoring progress on the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities (2023–2032).

She noted Kuwait’s recent launch of the Disability Guide, developed with WHO input, and ongoing reviews of national disability laws for alignment with global standards. A high-level national committee has been formed to ensure implementation and oversight.

Al-Huwailah reiterated Kuwait’s support for Qatar’s hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025, viewing investment in disability rights as essential for inclusive, sustainable development.
