Kuwait reaffirms commitment to civil society partnership in human rights reporting

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador H.E. Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening partnership with civil society and translating international recommendations related to its participation in the preparation of national human rights reports.

In a statement issued following a coordination meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with representatives of the National Standing Committee for the Preparation of Reports and Follow-up on Human Rights Recommendations and active civil society organizations, Sheikha Jawaher stressed the importance of exchanging constructive ideas and proposals among all concerned parties to achieve shared goals, reports Al-Rai daily.

She explained that the meeting aims to document field data and prepare parallel reports to be submitted to relevant United Nations bodies, including UN treaty committees, the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council, in addition to contributing to the implementation of recommendations contained in international reports.

She added that the meeting also seeks to coordinate national efforts by briefing civil society organizations on the committee’s work plan, which includes Kuwait’s submission of its fourth national report on the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights next October in Geneva.

The report reviews legislative, judicial and administrative measures taken to implement the rights enshrined in the Covenant.

Sheikha Jawaher further noted that the discussions addressed Kuwait’s re-nomination for membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term, reflecting the country’s continued commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at both the national and international levels.
