Nepali Embassy celebrates country’s National Day

 Ambassador Samih Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, commended the swift progress of Kuwait-Nepal relations during a press statement at the Nepalese Embassy’s National Day celebration and the tenth anniversary of its constitution.

He highlighted that over 110,000 Nepalis are employed in Kuwait, playing a vital role in the country’s development, which underscores the strong ties between the two nations.

He revealed the imminent opening of a Kuwaiti embassy in the Nepalese capital, stating, “We will soon open an embassy in Nepal.”

His Excellency Ghana Shyam Lamsal, Nepal’s ambassador to Kuwait, emphasized that Nepal and Kuwait have enjoyed excellent relations since establishing diplomatic ties on February 27, 1972. He noted that the two nations have maintained and strengthened their friendly relations for over 52 years. “We not only sit side by side in international forums, including the United Nations but also work closely and cooperatively on many issues of mutual concern and interest.”

In his speech during the celebration of Nepal’s National Day, attended by Ambassador Samih Hayat, as well as numerous officials and heads of diplomatic missions, he expressed satisfaction with the steadily growing levels of trade and tourism cooperation. “We believe this will elevate our bilateral relations to a higher level. We are confident that our ties will continue to expand and deepen, particularly in trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people relations.”

He also expressed sincere gratitude to the State of Kuwait for hosting more than 123,000 Nepalis, noting that the contributions of Nepalese citizens working in Kuwait have helped strengthen relations at the grassroots level.

He stated that Nepal’s tourism sector is thriving, offering stunning natural landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. He invited Kuwaiti friends and international travelers to discover the natural wonders of our country, from the majestic Himalayas to tranquil valleys, and to enjoy vibrant local cultures, historical sites, and warm hospitality.

Economic development
He pointed out that with the establishment of his country’s new constitution, Nepal is fully prepared to embark on accelerated economic development. The government is making every effort to create a favorable environment, including implementing necessary political and institutional reforms, to attract foreign investment. “We are determined to do more to make our country a better place to do business and unleash the potential of our people.”

A new chapter in Nepal’s historyOn September 20, 2015, Nepal’s Constituent Assembly issued the new constitution, marking the successful conclusion of the peace process that began in 2006. On that day, a new chapter in Nepal’s history opened. “I am honored to host this reception here in Kuwait to commemorate Constitution Day, which is also Nepal’s National Day.”

He added that the issuance of the new constitution by the Constituent Assembly was the culmination of the peace process, fulfilling the aspirations of the Nepalese people for a constitution drafted by their elected representatives. It also transformed the country from a centralized system to a federal system, embracing the multi-ethnic, multilingual, religious, cultural, and geographical diversity that characterizes Nepal.

He stressed that the Constitution of Nepal is not only a historic achievement for the Nepalese people but also a progressive law that sets unprecedented standards for guaranteeing the rights of the people by global norms. It encompasses all the essential features of democratic and inclusive governance. Furthermore, the Constitution envisions the transformation of society through the principle of relative inclusion of all segments of Nepalese society at every level of the governance structure.
