- Kuwait’s crude oil output reached 2.1 million bpd in October, its highest since the Iran war, demonstrating resilience amid regional risks
Kuwait increased its crude oil production to 2.1 million barrels per day in October, marking its highest output since the outbreak of the Iran war and an increase of more than 300,000 barrels per day compared with September, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The country’s production stood at around 1.77 million barrels per day in September, while output before the war began in late February was nearly 2.6 million barrels per day.
The increase came despite heightened risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where attacks on commercial vessels reached a record level. The disruption to oil exports through the strategic waterway had earlier forced Kuwait and other regional producers to reduce production.
The source, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss Kuwait’s oil output publicly, said the October figures reflected the increase in production. Kuwait Petroleum Corporation did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
