Kuwait pushes strategic PPP projects as fiber network tender nears award

Supreme Partnership Committee moves to fast-track power, water and digital infrastructure projects

The Supreme Committee of the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority is scheduled to meet next Monday to review a number of strategic development projects and assess the latest updates on their implementation.

Informed sources told Al-Rai that the Authority is intensifying efforts to accelerate the execution of vital projects, particularly those related to electricity and water production.

These efforts are supported by a secure and attractive investment environment, underpinned by a clear legislative framework and governance mechanisms designed to safeguard the rights of both the state and investors, while ensuring the efficient delivery of strategic infrastructure projects.

In a related development, the Partnership Projects Authority is awaiting approval from the State Audit Bureau to award the tender for the fixed communications network development project to the preferred investor.

Once approved, the implementation contract will be signed to commence the construction, operation and maintenance of fiber optic and copper networks for the Ministry of Communications.

According to the sources, the project will be implemented under a 50-year investment framework, including a four-year construction phase followed by 46 years of operation.

The project aims to deliver ultra-fast internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second and achieve coverage of 90 percent of residential homes within five years.

The project is also expected to significantly reduce operational costs for the Ministry of Transportation by transferring the management and maintenance of the fiber optic and copper network infrastructure to the private sector, enhancing service efficiency and sustainability.
