Kuwait proposes to UN creating digital platform for responsible norms in ICT use

The State of Kuwait on Thursday presented a proposal to the United Nations to develop a digital platform for voluntary and non-binding norms for responsible behavior of states in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The proposal was presented to the UN by Director of the Kuwait Information and Communications Technology Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Qadeeri at the UN Open-Ended Working Group meeting on the Safe Use of ICT.

He pointed out that the platform aims to help Member States effectively implement the UN norms, addressing gaps, and adapt to changing threats arising from the use of ICT with greater efficiency and better cooperation. Kuwait will provide the United Nations with the source code for the platform and all necessary documents to ensure its smooth and efficient operation, Al-Qadeeri said.

He noted that Kuwait has already has started the development of the platform, which reflects its firm commitment to pushing this initiative forward.

Al-Qadeeri stressed that the Kuwaiti initiative comes within the framework of the United Nations approved voluntary norms for responsible behavior of states and it aims to improve capacity and enhance confidence-building among Member State.
