Kuwait postpones bid opening for Cloud Data Center power project to March 10

The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has postponed the opening of bids for the tender to supply and install three main substations for the cloud data centers project.

The new date is set for March 10, instead of the previously scheduled February 10.

Following the opening of bids, the offers will be referred to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the competent authority, for technical evaluation and preparation of a recommendation. The recommendation will then be submitted back to CAPT to issue a decision on awarding the contract, reports Al-Rai daily.

Informed sources said that if the ministry secures CAPT’s approval for the award, the tender documents will be submitted to the State Audit Bureau for prior control procedures, review and auditing.

Subject to the Bureau’s clearance and absence of remarks, the contract will be approved and implementation will begin. The three substations are intended to provide the electrical infrastructure needed to power the upcoming cloud data centers.

The project is considered a key infrastructure component supporting one of the country’s major digital initiatives. The Public Authority for Communications had signed a land lease agreement with Google in December last year to establish cloud computing data centers in Kuwait.

Sources stressed the ministry’s keenness to complete the tender procedures, noting that the cloud data project represents a significant step in strengthening Kuwait’s digital infrastructure and advancing digital transformation in both the public and private sectors.

The initiative aims to provide secure and advanced cloud services, reinforcing Kuwait’s position as a regional hub for data and cloud computing.
