Kuwait Police Hunt Two Suspects After Jleeb Al Shuyoukh Gold Shop Robbery
Police circulate details of stolen jewellery, suspects and getaway vehicle as investigation continues
The Criminal Security Sector has launched an investigation into two unidentified individuals who carried out an armed robbery at a gold shop in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, stealing a large quantity of gold jewellery.
According to a security source, one of the suspects was disguised as a veiled woman while the other wore a mask. The stolen items included gold chains, bracelets, heart shaped pendants and other ornaments.
The source said investigators have significant leads that could help identify and arrest the suspects soon. Details of the stolen jewellery have been circulated to gold shops across Kuwait’s six governorates, while descriptions of the suspects have been shared with border crossings to prevent their escape.
Police have also circulated details of the vehicle used in the robbery, a small Japanese car that had been reported stolen by an Asian expatriate. The vehicle’s licence plate was also reported stolen.
The robbery took place around 8:00am last Thursday, but police were notified about three hours later after an employee arrived at the shop and found his colleague bound and unable to move or use his mobile phone.
The employee informed the Ministry of Interior’s operations room, following which security personnel and forensic investigators rushed to the scene to collect evidence and fingerprints.
During investigations, the victim told police that when he opened the shop in the morning, two individuals entered the premises. One, disguised in a niqab and later identified as a man, threatened him with a firearm and instructed his accomplice to restrain him before stealing the gold jewellery and fleeing the scene.
Reviewing surveillance camera footage revealed that the weapon used in the robbery was a 9mm pistol. Investigators also tracked the suspects’ movements and confirmed the use of a stolen vehicle during the crime.
The security source said the suspects appeared to have carefully planned the operation, taking advantage of the quiet morning hours when the gold market was deserted. However, detectives have several investigative methods available and are working to identify and arrest those involved.
The shop management is currently assessing the quantity and value of the stolen jewellery.
