Kuwait organizes 2-week campaign across 10 sites to combat hypertension, promote healthy lifestyles

In commemoration of World Hypertension Day, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health launched a nationwide awareness campaign on Monday under the title “Proper Nutrition for Hypertension Patients.” The two-week initiative aims to highlight the critical role of diet in preventing and managing high blood pressure, with events held across 10 Ministry-affiliated locations.

Dr. Hasnaa Ayyad, Director of Nutrition and Feeding, announced that the campaign features free nutritional consultations, informational brochures, and a range of interactive activities designed to educate the public. Highlights include demonstrations of the DASH diet, guidance on preparing low-sodium meals, and health screenings such as blood pressure and body composition checks, reports Al-Rai daily.

Sahar Al Ansari, Head of the Awareness Section, emphasized that the campaign seeks to encourage healthier eating habits and equip individuals—especially those with hypertension—with the tools and knowledge needed to reduce complications and improve overall lifestyle. She noted that direct community engagement is key to the campaign’s effectiveness.

Abeer Al-Saloum, Head of the Nutrition Department at the Maternity Hospital, where the campaign was officially launched, confirmed the hospital’s active participation. Teams are providing nutritional advice and setting up awareness booths in outpatient clinics to reach more patients and visitors.

The launch event was attended by Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs, and reflects the Ministry’s continued efforts to foster public health and promote preventive strategies against chronic diseases.
