Kuwait Oil Company drills deep Jurassic reservoirs in ambitious offshore exploration push

The Kuwait Oil Company has begun drilling operations in deep Jurassic reservoirs in Kuwaiti offshore waters, marking a significant step in its mission to discover new hydrocarbon resources from the Jurassic period.
According to the latest issue of Kuwait Oil magazine, specialized teams have begun work on the Julaia-3 and Raqwa-3 wells — the first Jurassic exploration wells in Kuwait’s offshore territory.
This move signals the start of the second phase of the company’s offshore exploration campaign, building on the success of the first phase, which provided a solid foundation for understanding the region’s complex geological structures.
The second phase of exploration includes plans to drill 18 additional exploratory and appraisal wells across the offshore and Kuwait Bay areas.
Simultaneousy, a 3D exploratory survey covering over 6,000 square kilometers is being implemented to provide precise geophysical and geological data. These efforts aim to both identify new hydrocarbon reservoirs and accelerate development and production.
“With the recent discovery of the Jazah offshore field, the success rate in our offshore exploration has reached an unprecedented 100%, a world-class achievement,” said company officials. “This reflects the efficiency of our national workforce and the effectiveness of investing in human capital.”
The company emphasized that these discoveries are central to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Kuwait Oil Company’s 2040 strategy, aiming to boost production, enhance energy security, and drive sustainable economic growth.
Plans are underway to rapidly develop the new offshore fields, creating job opportunities and strengthening the integration of Kuwait’s national energy system.
