Kuwait, OECD sign pact to develop education system and reform national curricula

The Ministry of Education announced that it will sign a cooperation agreement with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), today in the presence of the Minister of Education, Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, and OECD officials.
According to educational sources, the agreement outlines the OECD’s role in conducting a comprehensive study on the state of education in Kuwait and the newly developed curricula, with the goal of evaluating them and issuing a detailed report, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The sources explained that through this partnership, the Ministry aims to modernize Kuwait’s education system in line with international best practices, benefiting from the OECD’s global expertise to develop a national curriculum reform strategy and train educational cadres.
The cooperation also includes supporting Kuwait’s participation in the 2029 PISA study, as well as establishing a specialized national working group to design a comprehensive development plan and conduct joint workshops with international experts.
The sources added that the agreement’s terms encompass developing a national curriculum reform strategy, organizing knowledge-sharing workshops with experts to review successful global experiences, and preparing students for the PISA assessments. The OECD will also help evaluate the impact of Kuwait’s education reform plan based on future test results.
Last March, the Ministry of Education announced its plan to collaborate with the OECD across several key areas to enhance the education system in Kuwait and establish benchmark standards for curricula in mathematics, science, and English.
The partnership also includes supporting the design and implementation of teacher licensing tests, aimed at raising professional competency and improving the overall efficiency of the educational process.
Moreover, the OECD will support Kuwait’s participation in the 2029 PISA assessment, one of the world’s leading international tools for evaluating student performance and comparing outcomes globally, thereby contributing to enhancing the quality of education in Kuwait in line with global standards.
