Kuwait Municipality tightens oversight on building safety and regulations

Kuwait Municipality said it is implementing a comprehensive strategy to ensure that construction works comply with safety and security standards while maintaining the aesthetic appearance of buildings.

Head of the emergency team in Ahmadi Governorate, Khaled Al-Fadhli, told KUNA during a field tour that the municipality plays a vital role beginning with the issuance of permits—covering construction, demolition, maintenance, temporary work, and certificates—and extending to oversight during the implementation stage.

Al-Fadhli explained that monitoring includes following up on modifications to ensure the safety of neighboring properties and the enforcement of security measures to protect citizens and residents. He noted that the municipality also works closely with property owners and contracting companies to raise awareness of building regulations and overcome challenges they face in compliance.

During Monday’s tour in the Al-Sabahiya residential area, inspection teams recorded more than four violations against properties. Al-Fadhli stressed that the municipality will not hesitate to apply control measures to enforce regulations.

He called on citizens and residents to adhere strictly to building laws, noting that safety departments in all six governorates are carrying out intensive field campaigns to ensure compliance and strengthen the municipality’s role in safeguarding both people and property.
