Kuwait Municipality awaits Ports Authority update on marina development plans

The Kuwait Municipality is currently waiting for an update from the Kuwait Ports Authority on the development of marine berths and marinas.
Sources revealed that the Municipality has reached out to discuss potential marina developments and the establishment of boat and cruise ship parking project nearby. This initiative comes after numerous complaints from the public about the severe shortage of parking spaces for boats along the coastal strip.
The coastal areas currently lack sufficient parking near existing marine docks, forcing many boat owners to park in public squares, resulting in their vessels being classified as abandoned and impounded by the municipality.
Sanitation and roadwork teams have launched intensive campaigns to remove these abandoned boats, highlighting the critical need for designated parking facilities, report Al-Jarida daily.
Previously, the Municipality’s Projects Sector had prepared a detailed feasibility report proposing multi-story parking lots for boats across all governorates at nominal prices.
These lots would offer maintenance, fueling, and spare parts services to address the problem of boats parked haphazardly in residential areas, which narrows roads, causes neighbor disputes, and damages the urban appearance. The parking sites would be strategically located near elderly residential areas along the coast.
The proposal outlines two systems: a mechanical system using forklifts suitable for small to medium-sized boats, and an automated crane system capable of handling all boat sizes.
The report recommends locating these parking lots within five kilometers of the coast, coordinating with urban planning to reallocate unused government lands, and preserving public beach areas to avoid visual and noise pollution. However, the plan awaits approval from the Ports Authority, delaying its implementation.
