Kuwait moves ahead with over 1 bln dinar Northern Kabd Sewage Treatment Project

The implementation of major development projects agreed between the Kuwaiti and Chinese governments is progressing steadily, as preparations move forward to activate the seven cooperation agreements signed between the two sides.
In this context, informed sources told Al-Rai that the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Public Tenders is scheduled to discuss, at its upcoming meeting, the direct contracting of the sewage treatment plant project in the new northern Kabd area, a project whose value is estimated to exceed one billion Kuwaiti dinars.
The discussion comes shortly after Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah announced the near completion of technical studies for the wastewater treatment plant, reports Al-Rai daily.
The announcement was made during the 43rd meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Major Development Projects, held last Thursday.
According to the sources, the CAPT board had postponed its decision on the project during its previous meeting in order to receive a detailed briefing from representatives of the Ministry of Public Works on all technical and operational aspects.
The project includes the construction of a large-scale sewage treatment plant, in addition to connecting transmission lines to existing treatment facilities and implementing related infrastructure works.
The northern Kabd project is one of several major initiatives Kuwait is currently implementing in cooperation with the Chinese government.
These include the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, for which contracts have already been signed, as well as projects covering power generation, water production, renewable energy, waste recycling, and the development of new cities and residential areas.
The sources also praised the efforts of Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan in accelerating the completion of ministry projects and moving them toward on-site implementation.
These efforts aim to strengthen Kuwait’s infrastructure, particularly in roads, ports, sewage treatment plants, and electricity and water production facilities.
The northern Kabd sewage treatment plant is expected to play a critical role in supporting urban expansion and improving environmental sustainability, reinforcing Kuwait’s long-term development strategy.
