Kuwait marks first anniversary of Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s appointment

Kuwait celebrated a significant national occasion on Monday as it marked the first anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s appointment as Crown Prince.
This milestone, established by the Amiri Decree issued on June 1, 2024, by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was formally enacted the following day.
The announcement was met with public support, and Sheikh Sabah delivered a speech pledging unwavering loyalty to the Amir and the nation. He committed himself to preserving Kuwait’s stability, advancing unity, and working diligently for its progress, all while upholding Islamic values and the country’s founding principles.
On June 2, 2024, the Cabinet, led by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, convened in a special session where Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled officially took the constitutional oath.
Since then, His Highness has exemplified steadfast leadership and active engagement in the country’s affairs. Over the past year, he has played a vital role in implementing development plans, inaugurating infrastructure projects, attending national celebrations, and honoring the achievements of distinguished citizens.
On the international stage, His Highness has undertaken numerous high-level diplomatic visits, reinforcing Kuwait’s regional and global presence. Notably, on June 11, 2024, he traveled to Saudi Arabia to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where they discussed enhancing bilateral ties and addressing mutual concerns.
In September, he led Kuwait’s delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and represented the Amir at the Summit of the Future, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to international cooperation and diplomacy.
Throughout his tenure, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled continued to strengthen Kuwait’s foreign relations. He led the Kuwaiti delegation to the third Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit in Qatar, where he advocated for regional unity and emphasized sports diplomacy and the Palestinian cause.
In November, he participated in the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh and attended the COP29 Global Climate Summit in Azerbaijan. More recently, in March, he headed the delegation to the Arab League’s emergency summit in Cairo and in May, represented Kuwait at two key summits in Malaysia and later in Japan, where he concluded an agreement to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
His Highness’s contributions over the past year have reaffirmed Kuwait’s diplomatic identity and foreign policy values, shaped over decades of dedicated service.
He has consistently championed Arab solidarity and emphasized collective action in support of Palestine, while upholding Kuwait’s principles of sovereignty, non-interference, and respect for international law.
Born in 1953, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled earned a degree in Political Science in 1977 and began his diplomatic career in 1978.
He served as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and held several ministerial positions, including Social Affairs, Information, and Foreign Affairs, before being appointed Prime Minister in 2019, forming four successive governments.
