Kuwait is strategic partner, leading development supporter in Africa: Dr Khatir

The Embassy of the Republic of Chad in Kuwait celebrated its Independence Day on August 11, which was attended by a large number of dignitaries and ambassadors of several countries accredited to Kuwait and the chief guest Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary Nayef Al-Mudhaf.

The Chadian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Dr. Tahir Annadif Khatir, in his remarks shed light on his country’s rich agricultural resources, abundant livestock, and significant petroleum and mineral reserves, positioning the nation as a prime destination for investment under its ambitious “Chad Vision 2030” strategy.

The Chadian envoy highlighted Chad’s economic strengths, including 30 million hectares of agricultural land and 130 million head of livestock — among them 10 million camels, giving Chad the credit of hosting world’s largest camel population. He also pointed to the nation’s petroleum and mineral wealth as key drivers for growth.

The ambassador stressed that “Chad Vision 2030” serves as a comprehensive roadmap to boost the national economy, attract high-quality investments, and place citizens at the heart of development.

He revealed that Chad will host the “National Forum – Chad Vision 2030” in Abu Dhabi from September 8 to 10, and invited Kuwaiti investors, funds, and companies to take these opportunities in a safe and legally secure environment.

Dr Khatir described Chadian-Kuwaiti relations as “deep-rooted” since the early 1960s, advancing steadily thanks to the attention of both leaderships and praised Kuwait as a strategic partner and pioneering supporter of development in Africa, particularly in Chad, and commended the role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Kuwaiti charities in implementing vital development and humanitarian projects.

On the sidelines of the event, Al-Mudhaf, affirmed that the annual trade exchange between Kuwait and Chad currently stands at about 80,000 Kuwaiti dinars, with hopes for future growth.

He noted that KFAED has extended eight development loans to Chad worth over $110 million, primarily for infrastructure projects, and confirmed Kuwait’s readiness to consider new proposals from the Chadian side.

On labor cooperation, Al-Mudhaf said no agreement currently exists for recruiting Chadian workers, but Kuwait is open to studying such arrangements upon receiving an official request, ensuring mutual benefit.

Looking ahead, Al-Mudhaf stated that upcoming discussions with the Chadian ambassador will explore ways to increase Kuwaiti investment in Chad, building on the strong foundations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

He also lauded the humanitarian initiatives of Kuwaiti charities supporting Sudanese refugees, noting that these efforts will expand in the coming period with embassy support.
