The Ministry of Education supports the University of Berkeley’s plan to launch AI laboratories, integrating artificial intelligence into education to equip students with essential skills for a rapidly changing world.

• The proposed programs—covering AI basics, creativity, educational tools, and research—provide students in Kuwait an excellent opportunity to benefit from the University of Berkeley’s expertise.

• The cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the University of Berkeley “will contribute to unlocking the potential of youth and help them achieve success in a world full of challenges and opportunities.”

The Ministry of Education has approved an initiative proposed by the University of Berkeley to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into Kuwait’s education and training systems. According to Al Rai newspaper, the initiative includes the establishment of AI laboratories in secondary schools across the country.

This initiative was in response to a proposal received by Sheikha Al-Zain Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States, during her meeting with faculty members and coordinators of the artificial intelligence program at the University of Berkeley.

Mona Salem, Acting General ICT supervisor at the Ministry of Education, prepared a report highlighting the ministry’s strong interest and deep appreciation for developing young people’s skills and enhancing their capabilities in this vital field.

She expressed the Ministry of Education’s support for the University of Berkeley’s objectives to launch the announced artificial intelligence laboratories, aiming to integrate AI into education and provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

She noted that the proposed programs—including teaching the basics of artificial intelligence, promoting creativity through AI, using the technology as an educational tool, and participating in research and innovation activities in the field—offer an excellent opportunity for our students to benefit from the University of Berkeley’s extensive experience.

She pointed out that cooperation with the University of Berkeley “will have great benefits for our students and for the education system in Kuwait in general.”

She suggested “the formation of a joint working group comprising representatives from the Ministry of Education in Kuwait and the University of Berkeley to develop a detailed plan for implementing the proposed programs. This group would accurately determine the needs and requirements of students to ensure the effectiveness of the programs, provide the necessary resources for implementation—including infrastructure, technology, and financing—and continuously evaluate the programs to ensure they achieve their goals and improve when necessary.”

She also proposed developing curricula and preparing new programs in the field of artificial intelligence that meet students’ needs, as well as training teachers to use AI in the classroom and supporting research and development in the field of AI in education.

She stressed that this cooperation “will contribute to unlocking the potential of our youth and help them achieve success in a world full of challenges and opportunities.”
