Kuwait hosts ‘Oral Memory as a Cornerstone of National Identity’ Exhibition with Malta

On Tuesday, December 2, the Kuwait College for Science and Technology hosted the official launch of the exhibition “Oral Memory as a Cornerstone of National Identity: Republic of Malta and State of Kuwait,” organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Malta in collaboration with the National Archives of Malta.

The event was honored by the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq M.S. Marafi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Europe Affairs, who formally inaugurated the exhibition.

Professor George A. Said-Zammit, Ambassador of Malta to Kuwait, delivered the welcoming speech, highlighting the deep cultural similarities between Malta and Kuwait, including language, oral traditions, and shared social and geographical challenges.

He emphasized that the exhibition reflects the enduring diplomatic relations and strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.

Professor Said-Zammit described the exhibition as a bridge connecting Malta and Kuwait, showcasing shared values and experiences rooted in oral traditions and collective memory.

The President of the Kuwait College for Science and Technology spoke about the exhibition’s role in connecting the past, present, and future, noting the use of modern technology to engage younger generations with history.

Professor Charles J. Farrugia, National Archivist of Malta, presented on the methodology used by the National Archives of Malta to record national identity through oral history, highlighting its relevance for countries whose historical narratives are primarily oral.

The exhibition features digital posters illustrating social and cultural life in Malta and Kuwait across different periods.

The launch was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives from accredited international organizations, and distinguished officials from relevant Kuwaiti authorities, underscoring the event’s significance.
