Kuwait forms committee to study new electricity and water tariffs

Coinciding with the announcement by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, has issued Decision No. 103/2025 to form a committee tasked with reviewing and proposing new electricity and water tariffs.

The 10-member committee, chaired by the Ministry’s Undersecretary, will include representatives from various government entities, reports Al-Jarida daily.

It has been assigned to prepare a comprehensive study to calculate proposed electricity and water tariffs, including differentiated rates for peak usage periods.

The study will target all consumption sectors in order of priority and must outline a suitable implementation mechanism. The committee may collaborate with specialized consulting firms as needed.

According to the decision, the committee will convene at the ministry’s headquarters at the request of the chair or deputy. Meetings are valid only with a quorum (at least half the members plus one), including the chair or deputy.

The committee has been granted the authority to communicate with any internal ministry unit to fulfill its duties, and all departments are required to provide requested data and reports promptly. It may also seek external expertise as necessary. Decisions will be made by an absolute majority, with the chair holding the tie-breaking vote.

The committee has a three-month mandate from the issuance date (May 12, 2025) to complete its work and submit a final report, including the endorsed study, for ministerial approval.
