Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya participated Tuesday in the annual Africa Day celebration, held at the invitation of ambassadors and heads of African diplomatic missions accredited to Kuwait.
In a statement marking the occasion, Al-Yahya extended his heartfelt congratulations and emphasized the deep and historical relationship between Kuwait and African nations. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination with African countries across various sectors.
Al-Yahya highlighted the vital role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in supporting infrastructure and development projects across the African Continent since its founding in 1961.
The celebration also featured an art exhibition showcasing traditional and contemporary African works, along with musical performances by African folk groups — reflecting the cultural richness of Africa and the enduring bonds between its people and Kuwaitis.
Meanwhile, Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Waleed Al-Bahar, said the Fund has financed 540 development projects across more than 50 African countries, with a total value exceeding $11.4 billion.
Speaking on the occasion of Africa Day celebration, Al-Bahar emphasized that these projects account for approximately 57% of the Fund’s global activities. He noted that they have significantly impacted African economies and improved living standards, reflecting the special priority Africa holds in the Fund’s development agenda.
Al-Bahar expressed pride in the deep-rooted ties between KFAED and African nations, affirming the Fund’s continued commitment to providing loans, grants, and technical support for development programs that promote prosperity and sustainable growth across the continent.
He also noted that this year marks the ninth consecutive participation of KFAED in Africa Day celebrations, with a dedicated pavilion showcasing major development and humanitarian projects. More than 30 African embassies took part in the event, presenting exhibits that celebrated their diverse cultures, crafts, and historical heritage.
