Kuwait Football Association board announces mass resignation

The association announced its resignation due to the troubling events that occurred during the national team’s match against Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Football Association announced its resignation following the unfortunate events during the national team’s match against Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, according to Q8-Press.

The association said in its statement, “Dear members of the General Assembly of the Kuwait Football Federation and loyal Kuwaiti fans, who remain the primary supporters of our national teams and have consistently demonstrated their loyalty at every sporting event. Kuwaiti fans are our source of pride and honor. We thank you for your support since we assumed the responsibility of managing the Kuwait Football Association. Thanks to your support and trust, the Kuwait Football Association has achieved many successes at both the administrative and technical levels, raising the prestigious banner of Kuwait in sports forums.”

The statement added that according to the previous announcement from the association regarding the international match between the Kuwait and Iraq teams, an investigation committee was formed to conduct relevant inquiries. The committee completed its investigations and submitted its report to the Board of Directors in a session on September 14,. After reviewing the results and discussing them, the Board of Directors decided the following:

  1. Accept the resignation of the association’s Secretary-General and appoint Dr. Saleh Nasser Al-Majroub to fulfill the duties of Secretary-General.
  2. Accept the resignation of the Director of the Public Relations and Media Department.
  3. Accept the resignation of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Football Association and instruct the Secretary-General to call an Extraordinary General Assembly to elect a new Board of Directors to complete the current term, in accordance with Article 35 of the association’s Articles of Association.
