Kuwait foils liquor smuggling attempt in 20-foot container
Suspicions over a container carrying cable reels prompted inspection and in coordination with Kuwait Fire Force, reels were dismantled, uncovering 3,037 liquor bottles hidden to evade detection.

Acting on the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah to strengthen customs control and curb smuggling, the General Administration of Customs at Shuwaikh Port, in coordination with the Customs Investigation and Research Department and with support from the Kuwait Fire Force, thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of liquor hidden inside a 20-foot container arriving from a European country, reported Al Rai newspaper.
After suspicions arose about the contents of the container, which carried reels of solid cable, a thorough inspection was conducted. The reels were dismantled in coordination with the Kuwait Fire Force, which provided a specialized team to extract the hidden items. This led to the seizure of approximately 3,037 bottles of liquor that had been professionally concealed to mislead inspection efforts.
Following the inspection and confirmation that the container held no additional alcoholic beverages or prohibited substances, the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Department of Narcotics Control, was immediately notified. All information related to the shipment and the company involved was handed over to enable further investigations, apprehend those responsible, and take the necessary legal action.
This operation highlights the General Administration of Customs’ efforts to counter evolving smuggling methods and reflects the high level of preparedness and coordination among the relevant authorities to protect the country from the entry of prohibited materials.
