Kuwait envoy, Swedish Parliament Speaker discuss bilateral ties, regional developments

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Mohammad Yaqoub Hayati, and Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, H.E. Andreas Norlén, discussed bilateral relations, avenues for further cooperation, and recent developments in the Middle East.

The meeting took place Tuesday evening at the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament headquarters in Stockholm, according to a statement issued by the Kuwaiti Embassy in Sweden, reports the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The talks coincided with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Sweden —a n occasion that Speaker Norlén commemorated by congratulating for this occasion.

Both officials emphasized the historical depth of the relationship and explored ways to expand it across multiple sectors.

The discussions underscored the importance of joint economic ventures, notably Kuwait’s investment presence in Sweden, including the prominent energy partnership represented by OKQ8, a jointly owned company active in fuel supply, transport, and related services. In turn, the Swedish business footprint in Kuwait was highlighted, with companies like Volvo, IKEA, Ericsson, and H&M playing a significant role in the Kuwaiti market.

Ambassador Hayati also outlined areas where Kuwait seeks to benefit from Sweden’s advanced expertise—particularly in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, innovation, artificial intelligence, and information technology.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on regional issues, with both sides reaffirming the importance of dialogue, peace, and constructive engagement in addressing challenges in the Middle East.
