. . . in three selected areas covering 850,000 square meters

Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem said a pilot project to combat desertification in three selected areas covering 850,000 square meters has been launched, as part of the first phase of a broader national environmental plan.

The announcement came during a meeting with a high-level delegation from China’s Xinjiang Tajian Construction Engineering Company, in the presence of Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Hayat and members of the sand encroachment control project team.

The project aims to tackle sand encroachment and promote afforestation, leveraging Chinese expertise in land reclamation, modern irrigation, well drilling, and sand stabilization.

Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized the strong strategic ties between Kuwait and China, which span over 50 years, and highlighted the alignment of this cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative and the directives of His Highness the Amir.

The Minister expressed optimism about the project’s success and underscored its role in achieving Kuwait’s environmental sustainability goals.
