• The agreement with the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, now in effect, aims to raise quality standards in mining and raw materials import, supporting Kuwait’s development projects through strict steel standards, shipment verification, and geological checks.
In a move signaling a shift in the quality of infrastructure projects in Kuwait, the Ministry of Public Works aims to strengthen cooperation with the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation (FNRC) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two parties last August has now set clear guidelines for practical implementation, paving the way for improved technical standards in importing Al-Sulkhand supporting major projects, according to Al Anbanewspaper.
Informed sources revealed new details emerging from the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Public Works in Kuwait and the FNRC in the UAE, signed last August.
The agreement, which aims to raise quality standards in the mining sector and the import of raw materials such as steel, is now in effect with clear plans and precise clauses to ensure the achievement of its common objectives.
The sources emphasized that the memorandum focuses on improving the quality of major development projects in Kuwait, including road and infrastructure projects, by importing steel that meets strict technical standards.
They also pointed out that the FNRC will provide comprehensive support, including verifying the conformity of shipments to the required specifications in Kuwait before export, along with periodic checks of the geological composition of exported rocks.
The sources pointed out that this partnership represents a paradigm shift, particularly with the obligation for mining establishments in Fujairah to adhere to strict standards, including the quality of asphalt and concrete, ensuring the provision of materials that meet the highest international specifications.
Kuwaiti-owned mining establishments in Fujairah to get priority
According to the memorandum, priority will be given to mining establishments owned by Kuwaitis within the Emirate of Fujairah, enhancing investment opportunities and reducing the costs of importing raw materials.
It was also agreed to establish a coordination mechanism to determine steel prices based on qualitative density for a period of four years, ensuring cost stability and improving the efficiency of projects that rely on these materials.
Joint programs with the FNRC
In addition to its technical objectives, the memorandum includes training initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of Kuwaiti personnel through joint programs with the FNRC.
The sources explained that both sides agreed to exchange experiences and organize field visits for engineers and technicians from both countries. They also noted that the memorandum will remain in force for a renewable period of four years, containing precise technical clauses.
These include requiring facilities to provide a neutral third-party examination to ensure the quality of the steel and to guarantee that the density variation in shipments does not exceed 1%. Additionally, the geological formation of the rocks will be assessed every six months to ensure the efficiency of the final product.
Sustainable development
For his part, an official in the Ministry of Public Works confirmed to Al-Anba newspaper that this memorandum is part of the ministry’s strategy to improve the quality of road and infrastructure projects.
He said, “The partnership with the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation will contribute to providing high-quality raw materials, which will positively impact the efficiency of projects and help achieve Kuwait’s Vision 2035 in the field of sustainability.”
The sources pointed out that this cooperation not only reflects the depth of Kuwaiti-UAE relations but also serves as a model for harnessing shared expertise to achieve sustainable development and improve infrastructure quality, positioning Kuwait at the forefront of building and construction standards.
