Kuwait Diving Team recovers sunken yacht off Salmiya

The Kuwait Environmental Voluntary Foundation’s diving team salvaged a 57-foot, 30-ton yacht that sank off the Salmiya coast due to strong winds.

Team leader Walid Al-Fadhel told KUNA that the yacht’s location posed a threat to maritime navigation and risked environmental pollution due to the presence of fuel and oil onboard.

In coordination with the Coast Guard, Kuwait Fire Force, Kuwait Municipality, and Marina Mall management, the team conducted a challenging operation amid high temperatures, strong winds, and dangerous waves. The yacht had run aground in a rocky area near Marina Mall port, complicating towing efforts and endangering divers, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Fadhel urged seafarers to take preventive measures to secure their vessels and avoid contributing to marine pollution. He also praised the efforts of all supporting agencies and volunteers.

Since 1986, the Kuwait Diving Team has been engaged in voluntary missions to protect the marine environment and ensure safe navigation across Kuwait’s waters.
