Kuwait Customs thwarts attempt to smuggle 581,000 sachets of banned tobacco

The General Administration of Customs at the Shuwaikh Port has intercepted a large shipment of prohibited tobacco products arriving from an Asian country, thanks to the vigilance customs officers.
The illegal cargo was concealed in two massive 40-foot containers.
The Al-Jarida daily said, customs officers noticed inconsistencies in the bill of lading and as a standard protocol, secured the shipment, took samples from the goods, and referred them to the concerned authorities for thorough testing and analysis.
The test results showed the containers held a staggering 581,000 sachets of tobacco, with a total weight of 29,050 tons of tobacco which, in this form, is strictly prohibited under Kuwaiti law.
In an official statement, Customs department reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country from the entry of illegal, harmful, or unauthorized substances, and praised the efforts and vigilance of customs personnel at the port, highlighting their professionalism, sharp observation skills in the best interests of public health.
