Kuwait Customs steps up fight against radioactive smuggling with U.S. support

Director General of the General Administration of Customs, Yousef Al-Nuwaif, affirmed the ongoing commitment of the Kuwait Customs to enhance its capabilities in combating the smuggling of radioactive material and detecting hazardous stuff, in what is seen as a vital step to safeguard the country and bolster national security.
He said this during a meeting which was attended by Deputy Director-General for Research and Investigation Saleh Al-Omar, with a delegation from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Radioactive Smuggling Prevention and Control.
The discussions highlighted the strong bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and the U.S. in this field and the future of joint initiatives under the cooperation framework, reports Al-Rai daily.
The U.S. delegation praised Kuwait Customs’ advanced efforts in detecting radioactive materials and its key role in global initiatives to curb nuclear and radiological trafficking.
They emphasized that Kuwait has become a model for supporting peace and security in the region and internationally, while contributing actively to international operations and forums in this domain.
