Kuwait continues to enforce Nationality Law; 1,292 individuals lose citizenship

The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality during a meeting chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, announced the revocation or withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from 1,292 individuals.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the decision was based on various articles of Nationality Law No. 15 of 1959 and its amendments:

  • Eight cases were revoked under Articles 10 and 11 for duplication of nationality.
  • 189 cases (plus dependents) were withdrawn under Article 21 bis for fraud, false statements, and forgery.
  • 73 cases (plus dependents) were withdrawn under Article 13, Paragraph 1, involving fraud, forgery, and noble deeds.
  • 967 cases (plus dependents) were withdrawn under Article 13, Paragraph 4 due to the country’s higher interest, particularly linked to noble deeds.
  • One case was dropped under Article 14, Paragraph 3 for compromising loyalty to the country.
  • 50 cases (plus dependents) were withdrawn under Article 13, Paragraph 4 for issues linked to the 1965 census.
  • Four additional cases were withdrawn under Article 13, Paragraph 4 and Article 8, again in the context of the country’s supreme interest.

The Ministry emphasized that withdrawals also apply to individuals who acquired nationality through association with the violators.
