Mr. President,
There is no doubt that climate change has become a global concern, posing a threat to many countries, including the State of Kuwait, where its effects are increasingly tangible and accelerating, with rising temperatures, dust storms, and scarce rainfall impacting daily life.
In this regard, the State of Kuwait is committed to pursuing environmental sustainability and fulfilling its obligations under the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol through national projects and actions.
In alignment with the principles of the Paris Agreement, the State of Kuwait supports the presidential initiatives “Call for Truce” and “Water for Climate Change.” Kuwait calls on developed countries to fulfill their obligations under the Framework Agreement by providing financial and technical support and building capacity for developing and least-developed countries to help them withstand and adapt to the effects of climate change and to implement their nationally determined contributions.
His Highness the Crown Prince added that the State of Kuwait, represented by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, has actively supported many developing countries by offering a package of climate-impact reduction projects, including 1,330 loans and grants totaling $23 billion.
“Kuwait is committed to harmonizing economic growth with low-carbon development and climate resilience by 2050 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 through strategic projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, including the promotion of clean energy initiatives, the Crown Prince said.
His Highness added that Kuwait also aims to achieve a fifty percent share of solar energy in total electricity production by 2050, introduce new low-carbon technologies, develop long-term partnerships to invest in sustainable energy opportunities, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to eighty percent by 2040, with the hope that our collective efforts will help secure a prosperous future for all.
