Kuwait champions smart water solutions and regional leadership at SCO Summit in China

Heba Abbas, Technical Advisor and Head of the Sustainability Committee of the Water Association of Kuwait, participated in the “Media and Think Tank Summit” hosted by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The summit brought together over 400 delegates from nearly 200 media outlets, think tanks, international organizations, and government entities, reports Al-Rai daily.

Abbas delivered a keynote speech titled “Strengthening Bonds for Shared Prosperity and Development,” highlighting Kuwait’s commitment to global water sustainability and efficient resource management.

In her address, Abbas underscored the Water Association’s local and international role in enhancing water security and promoting the efficient use of water resources.

“Towards a New Kuwait 2035,” she said, “we are launching a global approach to water efficiency,” emphasizing the need for smart investment, innovation, and strategic partnerships to ensure equitable access to clean water and to support Kuwait’s low-emission transition.

She outlined the Association’s initiatives, anchored in three core pillars — sustainability of water resources; investment in human capital and effective local and global partnerships.

Echoing this vision, the Association’s President, Dr. Saleh Al-Muzaini, stressed the importance of collaboration among governments, the private sector, and civil society, with a special focus on empowering youth.

“We are turning the goals of New Kuwait 2035 into tangible programs that enhance water sustainability and foster green innovation for future generations,” Al-Muzaini stated.

Abbas concluded by reaffirming that water security is the cornerstone of economic development and quality of life, noting that Kuwait has the expertise and resources to become a regional leader in exporting water solutions, fully aligned with the national development goals under New Kuwait 2035.
