Kuwait-Canada art exhibition celebrates 60 years of diplomatic, cultural ties

The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) hosted an art exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art featuring Kuwaiti artist Thuraya Al-Baqsami and Canadian artist Reza Dost to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Canada.

During the opening, Canadian Ambassador to Kuwait Alia Mawani said art is a universal language that connects cultures.

She highlighted Al-Baqsami’s pioneering role in Kuwait’s art scene and Reza Dost’s artistic connection to Kuwait’s heritage, environment, and people. The exhibition, coinciding with Kuwait’s selection as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media for 2025, showcases themes of human expression, daily life, and cultural identity.

Exhibition coordinator Sarah Khalaf emphasized the longstanding ties between the two countries since the 1970s and noted that cultural relations remain a vital pillar of cooperation, supported through exhibitions, cultural days and workshops.

Artist Thuraya Al-Baqsami described her work as inspired by dreamlike imagery, heritage and childhood memories, while Reza Dost explained that his art captures human stories through portraiture, using light and texture to express identity and emotion across cultures.
