Kuwait Cabinet reviews security developments, praises Amir’s address on national unity

Kuwait’s Cabinet held a meeting Tuesday under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Maousherji briefed the media on the outcomes. At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet praised the address delivered yesterday by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, marking the last ten days of Ramadan, highlighting its emphasis on national unity, awareness, and vigilance amid rapidly evolving regional tensions.

The cabinet affirmed Kuwait’s right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter and reiterated the country’s solidarity with fellow members of the Gulf Cooperation Council in safeguarding regional security.

During the meeting, ministers were also briefed on the prime minister’s participation in a virtual summit between regional leaders and the European Union, where Kuwait condemned the attacks targeting its territory and called for international efforts to halt the escalation and restore stability.

The cabinet reviewed diplomatic efforts led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, including summoning the Iranian ambassador in Kuwait and delivering a formal protest note over the continued missile and drone attacks on the country.

It also condemned an attack on a residential facility in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, which resulted in civilian casualties, as well as an assault targeting the consulate building of the United Arab Emirates in the Kurdistan Region.

Separately, the cabinet announced the public holiday schedule for Eid Al-Fitr. If Ramadan completes 30 days, the holiday will run from Thursday, March 19, through Monday, March 23, with work resuming on Tuesday, March 24. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, the holiday will run from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22, with work resuming on Monday, March 23.

The cabinet also reviewed reports from various ministries on measures taken to raise readiness levels and ensure the availability of essential supplies and services for citizens and residents amid the current security developments. – KUNA
