Kuwait braces for unstable weather; forecasts thunderstorms, strong winds

The Meteorological Department has warned that Kuwait will continue to experience unstable weather conditions, with chances of scattered thunderstorms that may be heavy at times, particularly over southern and coastal areas, lasting until the early hours of Friday.

Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali said the country is being affected by an extension of a surface high-pressure system from the northwest, accompanied by a cold air mass, coinciding with a deep upper-atmospheric low-pressure system.

This weather pattern is leading to increased low- and medium-level cloud cover, interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds capable of producing thunderstorms.

Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Thursday’s weather will be cool and partly cloudy to cloudy, with light to moderate northerly to northwesterly winds, occasionally becoming active at speeds of 15 to 50 kilometers per hour.

There remains a chance of scattered rainfall, sometimes thundery, especially in southern and coastal regions. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius, while sea conditions will be moderate to rough, with wave heights of 3 to 6 feet.

He noted that tonight’s weather will be unstable, with skies ranging from cloudy to partly cloudy. Winds will shift between northeasterly and northwesterly, moderate to brisk and occasionally strong, reaching 20 to 65 kilometers per hour.

Thunderstorms may occur, at times heavy, particularly in coastal and southern areas, with the possibility of light fog in some locations. Minimum temperatures will range between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, and sea waves are expected to rise to 4 to 7 feet.

Looking ahead to Friday, Al-Ali said conditions will turn cool to cold, with cloud cover gradually decreasing and rainfall chances diminishing.

Winds will remain northwesterly, moderate to brisk and sometimes strong at 20 to 60 kilometers per hour, potentially raising dust. Maximum temperatures are forecast between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, with seas remaining moderate to rough.

Friday night will be cold, with light to moderate northwesterly winds of 12 to 35 kilometers per hour, and a chance of light fog in some areas.

Minimum temperatures are expected to drop to between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius, while sea conditions will ease to light to moderate.

As for Saturday, Al-Ali said the weather will be cool, with northwesterly to variable winds ranging from 6 to 28 kilometers per hour.

Maximum temperatures will remain between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, and the sea will be light to moderate, with waves of 1 to 3 feet. Saturday night will be cold, with some scattered clouds, minimum temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, and light to moderate seas.
