Kuwait braces for scorching weekend

. . . as temperatures near 50°c and dusty winds sweep the country

Coastal humidity, strong winds and extreme heat are expected to dominate Kuwait’s weather through the weekend, with temperatures forecast to approach 50 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali said Kuwait is currently under the influence of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by an extremely hot air mass, bringing very high temperatures and shifting wind patterns.

He explained that northwesterly winds will remain active at times on Thursday, reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour and raising dust levels across the country. The winds are expected to shift towards southeasterly directions on Friday and Saturday, bringing increased relative humidity, particularly in coastal areas.

Thursday: Heat Peaks at 50°C with Dusty Winds

Thursday’s weather is expected to be extremely hot, with moderate to strong northwesterly winds ranging between 20 and 60 kilometers per hour, occasionally intensifying and causing dust.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach between 48 and 50 degrees Celsius, while sea conditions will range from moderate to rough, with waves reaching 3 to 7 feet.

During the night, temperatures will remain high, ranging between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, with dust gradually decreasing. Winds will become lighter, ranging from northwesterly to variable directions at speeds of 8 to 32 kilometers per hour.

Friday: Humidity Rises Along Coastal Areas

On Friday, Kuwait will continue to experience very hot conditions, with humidity levels increasing, especially near coastal locations.

Temperatures are expected to reach 46 to 48 degrees Celsius, accompanied by light to moderate southeasterly winds ranging between 8 and 30 kilometers per hour.

Nighttime conditions will remain hot to warm and humid in coastal areas, with minimum temperatures between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius and winds ranging from 6 to 26 kilometers per hour.

Saturday: Continued Heat with Coastal Humidity

Saturday will bring another day of extreme heat, with maximum temperatures expected between 47 and 49 degrees Celsius.

Relatively humid conditions will continue along coastal areas, while winds will be light to moderate from the northwest, reaching speeds of 8 to 32 kilometers per hour.

Night temperatures are forecast to remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate sea conditions and wave heights of 1 to 3 feet.

The Meteorological Department advised residents to remain cautious during peak daytime hours, particularly as high temperatures, dust and humidity combine to create challenging outdoor conditions.
