Kuwait braces for a hot weekend before cooler ‘Suhail’ brings relief

Kuwait will experience sweltering conditions over the weekend, with daytime highs reaching up to 47°C and humid nights in coastal areas, according to the Meteorological Department.

However, relief is on the horizon as the “Suhail” star season approaches, signaling the gradual end of extreme summer heat.

Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, told KUNA that the country remains under the influence of the Indian monsoon depression, bringing hot, humid air with light to moderate northwesterly winds.

On Friday, maximum temperatures are forecast between 44–46°C, while Saturday will be even hotter, reaching 45–47°C. Nighttime lows are expected to hover between 29–31°C, with humidity increasing in coastal areas.

Meanwhile, the Al-Ajairy Scientific Center announced that the heat wave will begin to ease starting Sunday, August 24, with the arrival of the Suhail season, which lasts until October 14.

During this period, temperatures will gradually drop below 50°C, nights will become cooler, and southeasterly winds will replace the harsh summer winds, bringing noticeable changes in weather patterns.

The center highlighted several natural signs of the season’s arrival, including longer shadows, morning dew, increased humidity, and the growth of leafy plants.

It also noted that the Suhail star will be visible in Kuwaiti skies starting September 4, a traditional marker observed by astronomers and locals alike as the country transitions towards milder weather.
