Kuwait boosts US Treasury investments by 31% to reach $66 billion

Kuwait significantly increased its investments in US Treasury bonds, with holdings rising by 31.21 percent year-on-year by the end of December 2025, equivalent to an increase of $15.71 billion, bringing total holdings to $66 billion, compared with $50.34 billion in December 2024.
According to data released by the United States Department of the Treasury, Kuwait’s investments also recorded a monthly increase of about 1.85 percent, or $1.2 billion, compared with $64.85 billion in November 2025. This marks the eleventh consecutive month of growth in Kuwait’s holdings, reports Al-Rai daily.
The December portfolio was distributed between approximately $63.1 billion in long-term Treasury bonds and $2.95 billion in short-term securities, reflecting a continued focus on longer-maturity investments.
Regionally, Saudi Arabia maintained the largest Arab holdings of US Treasuries at $149.5 billion, ranking 18th globally, followed by the United Arab Emirates with $95.59 billion.
Globally, Japan remained the world’s largest holder of US Treasury securities at $1.19 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom with $866 billion, and China with about $683.5 billion.
Overall US Treasury securities outstanding reached roughly $9.27 trillion in December 2025, up 7.54 percent annually, despite a slight monthly decline.
