Kuwait bids farewell to extreme summer heat, enters autumnal equinox

September is a transitional month between summer and fall, with early signs of climate change appearing, as temperatures gradually decrease and winds generally calm.

• Maximum temperatures in Kuwait will start to decline in September because of the reduced angle of sunlight and shorter days, along with the disintegration of the Indian monsoon depression, which allows the movement of air masses and western depressions.

Meteorologist Issa Ramadan confirmed that Kuwait has said goodbye to the intense summer heat and entered the “autumnal equinox season.”

Ramadan told Al-Qabas newspaper, “September is a transitional month between summer and fall, with early signs of climate change appearing, as temperatures gradually decrease and winds generally calm.”

He explained, “This month marks the beginning of what is known as the Safri days, a period typically associated with the spread of seasonal illnesses such as allergies, colds, and eye infections, due to the significant disparity between maximum and minimum temperatures.”

He noted that maximum temperatures will start to decline in September because of the reduced angle of sunlight and shorter days, along with the disintegration of the Indian monsoon depression, which allows the movement of air masses and western depressions.

He added that this month, Kuwait bids farewell to intense heat waves that have at times reached 48 to 50 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures in desert areas during the early morning hours may drop below 25 degrees Celsius on some days.

He explained that September marks the start of autumn and the “Al-Wasm” season, considered the anticipated rainy season in Kuwait and the region.

It also coincides with the appearance of the “Sarfa Star,” which signals the end of the heat and the arrival of a more moderate climate, paving the way for cooler weather more suitable for daily activities.
