Kuwait bans barbecues and shisha on coastal strip
The ban covers green spaces, seaside sidewalks, and sandy areas, with legal action promised for any violations, said Faisal Al-Otaibi.

Faisal Al-Otaibi, head of the Camps Committee at Kuwait Municipality, announced the approval of eighteen sites for the upcoming camping season, set to begin in mid-November. Six previously available sites—Al-Oyoun, Al-Abdaliyya, two near Al-Julaia camp, and two others—have been canceled, according to Al Rai newspaper.
Al-Otaibi told the newspaper that several factors were considered in the selection and cancellation of sites, based on coordination with all relevant authorities, particularly avoiding certain points and locations.
The municipality announced that field teams have already begun their work to prepare the authorized camping sites and remove any obstacles, while also distributing containers of various sizes at the officially approved locations.
Additionally, Al-Otaibi mentioned that, at the request of the Tourism Projects Company, barbecuing and shisha smoking have been banned along the entire coastal strip until further notice, due to ongoing maintenance along the shoreline.
He explained that the prohibition includes green spaces, sidewalks along the sea, and the sandy areas, emphasizing that “legal action will be taken against anyone who violates these instructions in accordance with the law.”
He also mentioned that “municipality teams will conduct inspection tours on all beaches in the coming period, in cooperation with relevant government agencies,” noting that the only beaches currently allowing barbecuing are Al-Aqila and Al-Khiran Beach.
