Kuwait approves price cuts for 268 medicines and supplements

Total number of reduced-price medicines and nutritional products reaches 1,922

The Ministry of Health has approved price reductions for 268 medicines, pharmaceutical preparations, and nutritional supplements, bringing the total number of products covered under the ministry’s pricing and reduction decisions to 1,922 items. The move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure medicines in Kuwait remain among the cheapest across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries while enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare services in the country.

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi issued a ministerial decision approving and pricing the new medicines and supplements, which include advanced treatments targeting chronic and essential health conditions for citizens and residents.

According to the ministry, the newly approved list includes the latest innovative medicines for obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma, in addition to advanced treatments for angina, tumors, and cancer. The list also features a new generation of antibiotics and antimicrobial drugs aimed at strengthening treatment effectiveness and combating infections and inflammations.

The ministry stated that the new pricing mechanism is based on detailed technical studies using regional and international benchmark prices, with periodic reviews to maintain market stability. The regulatory measures are also aimed at strengthening oversight of the pharmaceutical market and ensuring adherence to approved prices to enhance transparency and sustainability within the pharmaceutical and food regulatory sectors, according to local Arabic daily Al Rai.
