Kuwait, and UAE’s Masdar discuss renewable energy cooperation

KUWAIT CITY, July 1, 2025 — The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy held high-level discussions on Tuesday with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to explore avenues of cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

The meeting was led by Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Adel Al-Zamil, who received UAE Ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, and Masdar CEO Dr. Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, along with an accompanying delegation, in the presence of senior ministry officials, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting falls within the framework of activating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last June with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in energy-related fields.

The MoU marks a strategic step toward Gulf integration, encouraging the exchange of expertise, technology transfer, and the implementation of joint projects that support sustainable development.

During the meeting, both sides discussed renewable energy collaboration, with Kuwait expressing interest in benefiting from the UAE’s leadership and innovation in the clean energy sector.

Masdar is recognized for offering cutting-edge sustainable solutions, contributing to:

  • The transition to clean energy
  • Infrastructure development
  • Energy efficiency technologies
  • Innovation in future energy systems

The Ministry affirmed that such cooperation will support Kuwait’s strategic projects, including Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex (Phase I & II) and upgrades to the national electricity system.

The meeting reflects a growing commitment by both countries to work together on long-term solutions that address climate challenges and build resilient energy systems for future generations.
