A decree has been issued approving a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for cooperation in environmental protection, rehabilitation, preservation, and the exchange of expertise in managing marine and coastal areas, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
This memorandum aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two parties in the fields of environmental protection, rehabilitation, and preservation, in accordance with the systems, laws, and regulations in effect in both countries.
The two parties will collaborate in the following areas:
- Assessing the environmental impact of projects and activities that may cause environmental damage.
- Managing marine and coastal areas, rehabilitating degraded marine ecosystems, and re-establishing common local species.
- Developing vegetation cover and combating desertification.
- Protecting wildlife and biodiversity.
- Building capacity in environmental fields.
- Managing environmental emergencies and responding to potential environmental disasters.
- Rehabilitating sites affected by various environmental activities.
- Adapting to climate change.
- Combating outdoor air pollution and noise.
- Proper management of hazardous chemicals.
- Combating illegal wildlife trafficking.
- Utilizing environmental electronic systems to serve the community.
- Protecting water resources (groundwater) from pollution.
- Developing and rehabilitating operational and closed waste landfill sites.
- Implementing projects related to the treatment of construction waste.
- Managing municipal solid waste projects, including cleaning, transportation, and treatment.
- Conducting environmental quality programs.
