Kuwait and India form joint committee to strengthen strategic ties across key sectors

MoU marks a new chapter in Kuwait–India relations, reflecting the shared vision of both nations

Kuwait has taken a significant step toward deepening its bilateral ties with India by approving a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint cooperation committee between the two governments.

The approval came with the issuance of Decree No. 82 of 2025, which was published in the Official Gazette on Sunday. The agreement was originally signed in New Delhi on December 4, according to news agencies.

The agreement outlines a framework for cooperation across various political, economic, and social domains, with the goal of enhancing coordination and building stronger, long-term strategic relations between the two nations. As part of the MoU, the two sides will establish a Joint Cooperation Committee — referred to simply as “the Committee” — tasked with advancing mutual interests and overseeing collaboration efforts.

According to the terms of the agreement, the Committee will focus on the following key areas:

  • Political Dialogue: Facilitating the exchange of views and information on political issues, including regional and international developments of shared concern.
  • Defense and Security: Promoting joint work in defense, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism.
  • Economic Development: Strengthening ties in trade, investment, and broader economic collaboration.
  • Food Security: Enhancing cooperation in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and food processing.
  • Education and Skills: Supporting joint programs in education and vocational training.
  • Consular and Health Affairs: Addressing labor and immigration issues, and cooperating in the health and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Science and Technology: Advancing partnerships in space, IT, and emerging technologies.
  • Cultural and Humanitarian Ties: Fostering deeper people-to-people and cultural connections.
  • Multilateral Cooperation: Coordinating positions within the United Nations and other international forums.
  • Other Areas: Exploring additional avenues of cooperation as mutually agreed.

The Committee will also be responsible for monitoring the implementation of existing agreements and cooperation programs, ensuring they are executed in accordance with available resources and national laws. It will serve as a platform for regular exchange of expertise, consultation, and updates between both countries.

This MoU marks a new chapter in Kuwait–India relations, reflecting the shared vision of both nations to expand cooperation beyond traditional boundaries and invest in areas that support sustainable development and regional stability.
