Kuwait and ICRC hold fourth strategic dialogue, sign humanitarian agreements

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the fourth session of the high-level strategic dialogue between the State of Kuwait and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber for the Kuwaiti side, and ICRC President Mirjana Eger for the international delegation.

In a statement, the Ministry said the discussions reaffirmed the deep-rooted partnership between Kuwait and the ICRC — spanning over three decades — and underscored their shared commitment to upholding international humanitarian law and protecting civilians during conflicts.

The dialogue also reviewed the ICRC’s continued role in addressing the issue of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons, and joint efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2474 on missing persons in armed conflicts, a resolution introduced by Kuwait during its 2018–2019 Security Council membership.

The session concluded with the signing of a joint declaration and two grant agreements:

  • The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development extended funding to the ICRC for a project providing health services and clean water in Somalia.
  • The Kuwait Red Crescent Society signed a $2 million grant with the ICRC to support healthcare access for vulnerable communities in Sudan.

ICRC President Mirjana Eger praised Kuwait’s leading humanitarian role and long-standing cooperation with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, especially in crisis zones such as Gaza, Syria, and Yemen.

For his part, KRCS Chairman Khaled Al-Mughamis affirmed the Society’s ongoing efforts to deliver sustainable relief and humanitarian aid, noting recent Kuwaiti relief flights carrying food, tents, and essential supplies to support displaced families in Sudan.
