Kuwait and China set to finalize Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port deal today

The port’s start date will be set, and management and operational terms outlined, aligning with leadership recommendations to create a secure regional corridor and commercial hub, paving the way for work to begin soon.

In December, the Council of Ministers approved a decree-law on Kuwait-China cooperation for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, with Kuwaits Public Works Ministry and Chinas Transport Ministry as the implementing entities.

The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project was designed according to the highest international standards and has entered the implementation phase, marking a milestone in Kuwait’s development journey.

 

The Mubarak Al Kabeer Port agreements will be signed on Sunday, with Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan and a Chinese government delegation in attendance, according to Al Qabas newspaper.

A government source confirmed that the delegation’s visit will mark the signing of the executive program agreement for the Mubarak Al Kabeer Port project, paving the way for work to commence soon.

The source explained that as part of the agreement with the Chinese side, the start date for work on the port will be determined, and the terms for managing and operating the port at all stages will be outlined. This aligns with the recommendations of the political leadership, aiming to establish a secure regional corridor and a commercial hub in the region.

In December, the Council of Ministers approved a draft decree-law on the memorandum of understanding between Kuwait and the Government of the People’s Republic of China regarding cooperation on the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project and its protocol.

The agreement covers several aspects of the project, including identifying the implementing entities from both sides. The Kuwaiti side is represented by the Ministry of Public Works, while the Chinese side is represented by the Ministry of Transport.

The Council of Ministers emphasized the significance of this development project as a regional transportation hub that will contribute to the economic and urban development of the northern region, diversifying and increasing Kuwait’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah also emphasized in Kuwait’s address at the recent World Government Summit in Dubai that the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project was designed according to the highest international standards and has entered the implementation phase, marking a milestone in the country’s development journey.
